Photo Sessions with Siblings and Toddlers

Have you ever thought, “I’m scared to book a session because my toddler won’t behave or participate”? Let us help ease your mind when it comes to photoshoots with siblings and toddlers.

Let them be their natural selves. When a new sibling comes into the world, the older sibling is already expected to change so much. They’re also pressured to do it very quickly. All of a sudden they are expected to share their belongings, attention, space, and well, basically everything that they previously thought was just for them, with another sibling.

We Won’t Force Them

Because of the expectations already out on siblings and toddlers already have, we won’t find me pushing or forcing them to do anything during the session that they aren’t comfortable with. For the parents, we will also be a voice or reassurance that it’s okay if they don’t cooperate the whole time. If they jump around, play, and don’t listen to instructions, it’s okay. If they aren’t ready to get into the picture, even better! We will encourage them to be silly, to be themselves, and to jump in when they feel ready.

Nothing your children do will push us away, frighten or stress us out, especially to the point that we’re not able to get beautiful portraits for you and your family to cherish.

While you are watching the photoshoot unfold, and possibly muttering under your breath, we are taking photos and grabbing angles that you probably don’t even realize are happening. While you’re so focused on how world war three is unfolding in front of you that many times you’re probably not seeing what we’re seeing. From our lens, we have an entirely different perspective. We see wonderful in-between moments. So don’t worry momma, we’ve got you covered.

Most siblings will usually always let us take their pictures, so we just let it be on their terms. In the back of our heads, we have the main shots and poses that we’d like to get. With little ones, we’ve learned to just go with the flow. We usually always get those poses, but they may not be in order. Which is totally okay! If they’re standing, we’ll do the standing ones first. If they’re sitting, we’ll do those first. Same goes if they’re more comfortable on their own first or with their sibling first. The photo session goes by much easier if the child isn’t forced into poses!
